WOODHAVEN DRIVE DINING ROOM

ABOUT THE PROJECT

How do you improve upon a gracious dining room in a historic Mt. Lebanon home with gorgeous architectural features? You design it to be the crown jewel of the home!  We worked with the existing architectural features of the room, including original hardwood floors, textured plasterwork, raised medallions, and ceiling details.  The room already featured a beautiful Persian rug, unique French dining set, a graceful blown glass chandelier, and vintage piano, so the design concept was simple: to lighten, brighten, and modernize the traditional space, drawing inspiration from the chartreuse and coral details in the rug.

A fresh paint palette of a bright off-white on the walls and a chartreuse ceiling color allows the wall texture and the chandelier to take center stage. The gilding on the plaster ceiling features was preserved, and additional color and texture was injected with the addition of chartreuse glazed linen curtains and roman shade with textured white on white trim.  Custom white performance fabric cushions with mini coral colored cording were handmade for the French chairs.

For functional furnishings, we selected matching linen wrapped buffets with miniature brass knobs for either side of the side window to provide more texture and storage. The buffets were chosen for their traditional form and modern finish, a perfect update for this traditional space. Large mirrors lean on both buffets, with oversized coral hand painted Asian lamps to bounce the light around the room.

The final touch is the collection of fun and fantastic art, a large modern portrait in bright, fresh colors framed in a playful pink centers the wall opposite the front window, and an eclectic gallery of modern and vintage items custom framed for the space is hung in a pleasant geometric pattern above the vintage piano.

This dining room is ready for its debut, whether that be next year’s Thanksgiving feast for a large family or Friday poker night with the neighbors.  Cheers!
