MISSION DRIVE FIRST FLOOR RENOVATION

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This newly designed first floor combines bold modern elements and sophisticated, timeless touches, perfectly tailored to this family’s unique style and eclectic artwork collection.

The kitchen refresh design blends modern and traditional detail, the foundation of which started with replacing the outdated tile floor with new oak hardwood in a herringbone pattern, creating a unique but timeless foundation for the entire space.  A special colorful Claystreet stoneware vessel inspired the color palette for the entire project.  The dynamic colors and pattern of the backsplash tile, a result of a collaboration between Pratt and Larson and Kat & Roger, steals the show and pops against freshly painted white cabinets and clean white quartz countertops.

A blend of mid-century cabinet hardware and modern fixtures like the Brizo faucet, new fireclay sink, and a modern hood further add a modern edge to the traditional cabinets.  A custom colored microwave and new globe lights bring a playful and contemporary feel.  The addition of the reeded millwork on the island and the terracotta-colored velvet stools invite family members and guests to relax and stay awhile.

The revamped banquette offers functionality with drawers for storage and stylish reeded trim details.  A custom upholstered bench and tufted back in a vegan leather ensures comfort and easy maintenance for this busy family.  The dining space is elevated with a tulip table and striking yellow molded chairs, a perfect resting place for family meals, homework, games, and creating artwork.

The bar also received a stunning transformation, shedding its dated look with a bold repaint and leathered granite top.  The removal of the mullions modernized the glazed upper cabinets.  Additionally, leather accented cabinet hardware, graphic wallpaper, a new sink and Brizo bar faucet continue the interplay between modernized bold elements and sophisticated details.

In the family room, the shift from oversized leather furniture to chic curved pieces from Perlora softens the boxiness of the room.  The warm ochre curved sofa, complemented by bold blue swivel rockers and a neutral upholstered coffee table, offers a welcoming place to relax in style.  The vibrant rug and white accents add dimension and balance, while elegant brass and navy beverage tables elevate the room’s sophistication.

The transformation of the stone fireplace was a simple result of surrounding the space with bright whites and soft wool drapery.  Louis Poulsen floor lamps, Holland and Sherry wool panels, and a white wall color create a warm and inviting space throughout the day.

The reimagined floor plan in the family room accommodates both a broom closet and a private nook, perfect for a mid-century walnut desk.  The wall paneling behind the desk allows for an integrated adjustable solution for the shelves and storage boxes.  The wall boxes showcase fluted glazed glass sliders, while the two generous drawers conceal clutter and offer outlets for charging cords.

With minimal construction, this remodel has brightened and modernized the family’s living areas and created a vibrant yet livable space that showcases their unique style.
